Recognised throughout the world as possessing one of the most thrilling voices of our time, the great American baritone Sherrill Milnes has sung in every major opera house in the world, with virtually every leading orchestra and in solo recitals in the world’s music centres. His master classes are much in demand and have included a series at the Juilliard School in New York, at the Conservatoire in Moscow, in London and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester of which he is an Honorary Fellow. He is Chairman and Musical Director of VoicExperience He was for many years the leading baritone of the Metropolitan Opera New York and a frequent guest at La Scala, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera and the opera companies of Paris, San Francisco, Berlin and Hamburg. He made many appearances at the Salzburg Festival and appears regularly at the Hollywood Bowl, Ravinia, Tanglewood, Wolf Trap and Ambler Festivals. In the summer of 1989 he made his first ever trip to the USSR for a performance of Tosca at the Bolshoi and a concert with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. A prolific recording artist, he has been engaged by every major record company in more than fifty major recordings encompassing all areas of the vocal repertory. The distinguished conductors with whom he has recorded include Abbado, Bohm, Giulini, Kleiber, Leinsdorf, Levine, Maazel, Mehta, Muti, Ozawa and Solti. His recordings have won the Grand Prix de Paris, the NARAS Award, The Edison Award, the Premio della Critica Discografica Italiana Award, and many Grammy Awards. In the words of Harold Schonberg of The New York Times, "Sherrill Milnes is unmatched today as a vocalist in the Italian repertory" and Irving Kolodin of the Saturday Review headlined a review of Don Giovanni by writing "First Pinza, then Siepi, now MILNES".
