Biography:

William Lacey’s recent engagements in Europe include LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN and NABUCCO with the Nationale Reisopera (Netherlands), LA VIDA BREVE and IL PRIGIONIERO with the Greek National Opera, and FIDELIO, DON GIOVANNI and IDOMENEO with the Birmingham Opera Company, in new productions directed by Graham Vick. Recent North American operatic engagements include Houston Grand Opera (L’INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA and DIE ENTFUEHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL), Canadian Opera Company (DON GIOVANNI), Santa Fe Opera (DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE and COSI FAN TUTTE), Washington National Opera (TAMERLANO), and New York City Opera (FLAVIO). He will return to Houston Grand Opera and Washington National Opera during 2010 and makes his debut at the Liceu in Barcelona in 2011.

Recent concert appearances include the Ulster Orchestra (Belfast), Mahler's 5th Symphony and two programmes of Haydn and Schubert at the Tyrol Festival, the Haydn Orchestra in Bolzano, the Real Filharmonia de Galicia, Handel's OTTONE at the Casa da Musica in Porto, the Israel Camerata, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Houston Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre de Bretagne and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. With the Plush Festival Ensemble, he has directed several programmes combining Bach cantatas with recent works by Kurtag, Carter and Birtwistle.

William Lacey was born in London in 1973 and studied music at King's College Cambridge, and in Venice and Salzburg. As a pianist and chamber musician, he studied extensively with Gyorgy Kurtag and Alfred Brendel. He studied conducting with David Parry and Gustav Kuhn.
