Kirill Gerstein wins the Gilmore Artist Award and makes his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Pianist Kirill Gerstein has become the sixth recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award, one of the music world’s most significant and prestigious awards, given every four years to an unsuspecting pianist.

The award is for superb pianism and profound musicianship and is worth $300,000 of which $50,000 may be spent outright on what he chooses, and the rest to be applied to further his artistry and career by approval of the Gilmore Festival.

Kirill Gerstein joins an elite group of previous winners including such prominent pianists as Ingrid Fliter, Piotr Anderszewski and Leif Ove Andsnes.

This month Kirill Gerstein appears with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, tours Spain with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Charles Dutoit and appears with the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne under Semyon Bychkov.

Kirill Gerstein will also make his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Chicago on Thursday 4th March 2010.
